Help
The section below will help you troubleshoot commonly reported problems.
-
- What hardware and software do I need for this website?
-
You must have a Windows, Mac, Android or iOS device with a recent version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Safari, or Samsung web browser.
-
- Does this website work on smartphones and tablets?
-
Yes. You can broadcast your webcam and watch others on most Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. We are the first webcam chat site to offer native mobile streaming without an app, using either the front or rear camera in landscape or portrait mode.
-
- Can I use my front and rear camera on mobile devices?
-
Yes. You can switch from front to rear camera and vice versa at any time during your broadcast.
-
- My video looks very narrow when I stream on my phone, how can I make it normal width?
-
Flip your phone on its side while broadcasting. Mobile devices stream in portrait orientation when held upright and landscape when held sideways.
-
- Why do I see a large "Start Video Chat" button which redirects me to another site?
-
You are either blocked from the site, or ChatVille is not available in your area.
-
- If I am blocked, why was I blocked, and how do I request to be unblocked?
-
In most cases you would be blocked for opening too many accounts, being kicked too many times for rule violations, or if your ISP accedentally gives you a previously blocked IP address. Most blocks are removed automatically after 30 days unless the block was placed for a major rule violation. If you are a VIP member, please click here to unblock your account immediately. If you are not a VIP member and would like to become one, please click here to add 270 Tokens to your account.

- My webcam does not work on your website, how do I fix this?
-
The most common reason is your webcam not being allowed to broadcast by your web browser. First, try selecting Low quality in the Webcam Source menu. If that fails, check your permissions by clicking on the secure lock icon on the left side of the browser URL bar on top, change your webcam and microphone settings to allow access, and refresh your browser window. Once you log back in, click on Webcam ON/OFF, and then press Allow. If that does not work, please reboot your device, and try again. If it still fails, please go to https://test.webrtc.org, and follow the instructions to test your webcam. If your webcam passes all the tests, please contact us for further assistance. If it does not pass, please try using another webcam or contact the manufacturer of the webcam for assistance.
-
- My webcam only broadcasts in wide screen format, why can't I change resolution?
-
By default, our website requests high quality resolution. If you would like to be able to change your webcam's resolution, please select Low quality in the Webcam Source menu.
-
- Why does my webcam keep turning off or resetting?
-
Usually this happens when your Internet connection is slow or gets interrupted frequently. Please make sure other websites are loading fast, and if not, you may need to reboot your router or change location for a stronger WiFi signal. This can also happen when you do not have unlimited bandwidth, and your provider throttles your connection, and a solution would be to upgrade your plan. Another fix that users have reported is disabling browser add-ons or plugins that could be filtering or interrupting your connection.

- Why do I keep getting a Connection Timeout error?

-
- Why do I keep getting logged out at random times or when changing rooms?
-
Usually this results from too many Connection Timeout errors (please see question above). Another common cause is your web browser crashing due to lack or memory or insufficient CPU power. If you are using MS Edge, there is a known issue with frequent crashing when attempting to watch video in VP8 format. For best performance, we recommend Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
-
- When do I need to become a VIP member to broadcast my webcam?
-
If you are a first time member and have had your account for 7 days or more, you are asked to become a VIP member or maintain a minimum of 270 Tokens in your account to continue broadcasting your webcam. If you do not become a VIP member, you can continue using ChatVille for as long as you like without broadcasting your webcam.
